According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, county commissioners submitted a new proposal to the city Wednesday that seeks reduced rates for treated water and triple the rate for raw water.
If accepted by the city, it could save Forsyth County customers about $28 million over the next 15 years compared with the current contract.
Forsyth County commissioners refused to accept the latest water prices from the city of Cumming Tuesday and also refused to pass a counteroffer.
The county is trying to reach an agreement over the cost of water by a May 26th deadline when, without an agreement, the city will be able to charge the county whatever it wants for water.
Cumming officials proposed to charge the county $11.4 million for upgrades to the city's new water intake facility on Lake Lanier.
Forsyth County commissioners have argued that they shouldn't be held accountable for the increased price of the more treated water since they didn't approve or agree to the upgrades.
