DORAVILLE - Family members of a police officer killed while responding to a home invasion call say they were devastated to learn his name won't be part of the Georgia Public Safety Memorial.

Doraville police have said 27-year-old Shane Wilson was the overnight on-call detective and was responding to a home invasion call in November when he was struck and killed by an SUV headed the wrong way on Interstate 20.

Wilson's relatives said they were preparing for the Public Safety Memorial ceremony in Forsyth this week and learned by chance that a memorial committee had decided to leave his name off the memorial.

Tim Bearden, director of the Georgia Public Safety Training Center, says criteria for being part of the Georgia memorial includes having been killed in the line of duty.
