Sheriff Roger Garrison said that the 16-year-old was killed after authorities say he threatened officers with a handgun Tuesday night.
Authorities say the boy's mother called 911 just before 6 p.m., saying her son was waiving a .357 magnum around their house in Woodstock.
The sheriff says officers got the mother outside, but the boy would not leave. Garrison said he either fired a shot through the plate glass window in the door or pushed the gun through the door in a threatening manner toward the officers.
Garrison said a sniper across the street then fired one round and hit the teen in the stomach.
