GAINESVILLE - One less candidate is in the crowded race for Hall County Sheriff... Rickey E. Tumlin announced Monday that he's ending his campaign and is endorsing Jon P. Strickland.

"I'm withdrawing from the race because I just don't think my health is going to permit me to withstand the rigors of campaigning this summer," said Tumlin.

Tumlin also cited his wife's health as a reason for leaving the race.

He said he's known Jon P. Strickland and his family for many years, and he said Jon Strickland is the most suitable candidate for the position.

"Jon just seems to have the same outlook and philosophy about law enforcement that I have," said Tumlin.

In addition to Jon P. Strickland, Chuck Hewitt, Gerald Couch, John Sisk, Jeff Strickland and Richard Blevins are all still in the race for Hall County sheriff.
