Mary Norman, Coca-Cola's director of marketing in the foodservice division, will be the guest speaker for the university's Mike Cottrell School of Business ceremony, scheduled for 11 a.m. on May 5. Norman has been with Coca-Cola for 13 years, and is responsible for leading the multi-year channel vision through her marketing team, and translating Coca-Cola North America brand and category plans into the development of best-in-class annual strategic and commercial plans for nine key sub-channels. She also served as an adjunct professor within the Mike Cottrell School of Business during the fall semesters of 2007 and 2008, receiving a Student Government Association Staff Appreciation Award in 2007.
The School of Education has chosen Dewey Moye, superintendent of Lumpkin County Schools, as the speaker for its ceremony, scheduled for 2 p.m. on May 6. Moye has served 42 years as an educator, the last 32 of which have been in Lumpkin County. Since 2004, he has been the superintendent, after serving as an assistant principal and principal in Lumpkin County. Prior to coming to Lumpkin County, Moye was a teacher, coach, assistant headmaster and headmaster in southern Georgia.
Dr. Ben C. Mathes, president of Rivers of the World-an international exploration and development agency that targets remote river basins-is the speaker for the School of Science and Health Professions' ceremony. It is scheduled for 7 p.m. on May 4. An ordained Presbyterian minister, Mathes has traveled the world since 1978 on a mission to improve international health development. He has served in more than 20 impoverished countries, and his organization is responsible for treating more than 1 million cases of river blindness and immunizing more than 775,000 children against polio.
The School of Arts and Letters will hold its commencement ceremony at 3 p.m. on May 5, but has not announced its speaker yet. All of the commencement ceremonies will be held in the university's Memorial Hall Gymnasium. Tickets are required for entry-each graduation candidate will be given six tickets to their specific ceremony.
