Sonny Seiler, whose family has provided the famed English bulldogs known as Uga since the 1950s, says "We hope to present the dog physically at the first home game."
Seiler says the family has two puppies that are direct line, but is not sure which one or if either will be picked. There may also be a third option.
The Athens Banner-Herald reports a decision is expected by August, when the dogs under consideration will turn 1, guaranteeing they are big enough.
Uga VIII died in February 2011, a month after being diagnosed with cancer at 17 months old. He served as mascot for only six games.
