Georgia State moving up, joining Sun Belt Conference

ATLANTA -- Georgia State is moving up to the Football Bowl Subdivision by joining the Sun Belt Conference for the 2013 season.

The official invitation was extended to the school by Sun Belt Conference president and Troy University chancellor Jack Hawkins on Monday.

The Panthers will continue to play in the Football Championship Subdivision as a member of the Colonial Athletic Association through 2012. Georgia State launched its football program in 2010 with Bill Curry as coach.

Georgia State will play a Sun Belt schedule in football in 2013 and will be eligible for the postseason and the conference championship in 2014.

The school is moving to the Sun Belt in all sports.
