Baseball: Benefield helps Johnson past Walnut Gove

OAKWOOD -- A.J. Benefield starred for Johnson on Wednesday as the Knights knocked off Walnut Grove 3-1 in Oakwood.

Benefield led the Knights from the mound and the plate, pitching a complete game while driving in the key runs, as Johnson moved to 9-5, 6-3 in Region 8-AAA.

Benefield struck out 10 Walnut Grove batters on the night, allowing no earned runs while giving up five hits and one walk.

He also went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs, as Johnson bounced back from a 1-0 deficit in the bottom of the fifth. Adam White and Chris White also had hits for the Knights.

Johnson will travel to face Lumpkin County on Friday in Dahlonega.
