After the Corps of Cadets passed in review of Riverside President Col. James Benson, Turner and her daughter, Turner stressed the importance of a basic understanding of the Constitution.
"The knowledge of your Constitution is how you're going to be prepared, as well as the fact to realize that it's not a partisan document, it's for all Americans," Turner said.
"Ronald Reagan talks about this. We're one generation away from losing our liberty. We don't ever want to take it for granted," Turner said.
She told cadets that she sees three major miracles in United States History, the Declaration of Independence, the American Revolution and the Constitution.
To that end, Turner is founder and Co-Chair of Constituting America, an effort to educate and inform adults and students about the Constitution. Her daughter, Juliette, serves as National Youth Director of the organization .
Turner is no stranger to the military environment. She told students of her father's attendance at West Point and his Air Force career flying a B-58 Hustler in the 1950's.
In addition to her education efforts, Turner also hosts a radio show in the Dallas Fort/Fort Worth area and appears on some Fox News shows. She is perhaps best known for her television role as Maggie O'Connell on the CBS program Northern Exposure.
