DEMOREST -- Three early goals set the tone for visiting Centre College Tuesday afternoon in a 19-7 win over Piedmont at Walker Field.

The loss broke Piedmont's two-game winning streak. The Colonels ripped off three unanswered goals in the first quarter before the Lions put one on the board courtesy of Nick Leaf with 6:35 to go.

Within a five-second span a bit later, the visitors tallied two more scores to go up 5-1. Paul Jones picked a good time to notch his first career goal, scoring with 1:28 on the clock off an assist by Ryan Price, his second of the period. The home team got off to an electrifying start to the second quarter, scoring twice in the first 14 seconds. Steve Blanchard and Spencer Ortis quickly shot one past the goalie for powerplay goals to cut the deficit in half to 5-4.

Centre immediately swung momentum back in its favor with three consecutive goals to push the lead back to 8-4 and double up on the Lions before adding its ninth goal moments later while playing a man-up. The Colonels continued to pile on the points, reaching 11 when scoring twice more in a three-second window as the clock ran below five minutes until the half, and making it eight unanswered goals while pushing the lead to 13-4 going into the break.

The Colonels outscored the Lions 6-3 the rest of the way, as Piedmont found two more goals in the third before one final one in the fourth period. Ortis was the lone Lion to tally two goals, while five other men chipped in with a goal to round out the scoring. Price and Patrick Ammons both recorded a pair of assists in the loss. Piedmont moves to 4-4 on the season, but return to action Thursday against Carthage College at home with a 7:30 pm start time.
