Reece and Meg Callahan, who tied her season-low with a nine-hole 40, gave Gainesville a 77 to the Lady Spartans' 84 heading into Tuesday's final round.
Gainesville coach Clay McDonald said it was a solid day for his group.
"That was a real good day for us and both Morgan and Meg played very well," McDonald said. "But, tomorrow is a new day and we can't worry about what we did today. We were in the same spot last year and West Hall came back to push us to the final hole to win it. I expect a battle (Tuesday)."
West Hall's Malorie Smith shot a 38 to lead the Lady Spartans.
The two-day tournament is scheduled to tresume at 3:30 p.m. Tuesdsay at Royal Lakes.
