A parent of one of the students involved called the Pickens County Sheriff's Office around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday to report a suspicious device at their home. Deputies reported that the device appeared to be a pipe bomb.
During the course of the investigation, authorities determined that one student made the bomb at home and brought it to school to give to the other student. That student apparently planned to take the device home to detonate it on his parents' property.
Both students are 17-years-old and both are being held by Pickens County authorities. Charges are pending against the two.
Pickens Sheriff's investigators conducted a thorough search of Pickens High School and determined the school was safe for students, faculty and staff. School opened as scheduled Thursday morning.
The Pickens Sheriff's Office said it will have extra security at Pickens High School Thursday.
