GAINESVILLE - More than 100 jobs will be coming to Hall County thanks to a planned company expansion by IMS Gear.

Company Comptroller Tim Corbin made the announcement Thursday afternoon at the Chattahoochee Country Club during the regular monthly meeting of the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.

Corbin said the company, which makes electronic parts for the automotive industry, currently employs around 150 people.

"Three years ago we had only about 55 jobs, so we've already created many jobs in the last few years."

He said the newest positions will be added over the next two to three years. Besides the job creation, the expansion represents a $22 million investment in the community. And, the physical facility itself will grow by over 95,000 square feet, according to Corbin.

The German-based company opened its first facility outside of Germany in Hall County in 1995. Initially, the company worked hand-in-hand with Seimens Corporation.

Corbin acknowledged that IMS Gear saw a downturn in production between 2007 and 2009 as the automotive industry suffered during the economic slump. During that time period, company officials worked on product development, and in the last year and a half, IMS has been building once again.

Corbin said the company was able to add 66,000 square feet of space to its Palmour Drive facility.

As for the types of employees IMS Gear will hire, Corbin said the company needs will vary.

"[They'll be] good, strong manufacturing jobs with solid wages."
