Gainesville Police Department spokesman Joe Britte confirmed that the two victims inside the car that crashed into a tractor trailer on Purina Drive were badly burned.
"Right now it's [identities] undetermined, it's still under investigation," said Britte.
The two victims reportedly were traveling at a high rate of speed along Purina Drive around 1:00 a.m. Tuesday when the vehicle crested a hill and crashed into a big rig carrying dog food just in front of the Purina Mills facility.
Britte said investigators are unsure of what the vehicle was doing in the area.
"Nothing new, no new leads," said Britte. "We're just trying to run tests and trying to see who they are."
Britte said at this point investigators are relying on DNA to confirm the identities of the victims.
The driver of the rig, 36-year-old James Allport of Malinta, Ohio, was able to escape uninjured from the cab of the truck after it was hit by the car.
