The former player, Kendrell Bell, had claimed Donnan got him to invest $2 million in a West Virginia company. Bell's attorneys say it was a scam. Donnan has filed for bankruptcy protection and Bell has filed a claim in bankruptcy court to recover his money.
The Athens Banner-Herald reports (http://bit.ly/zAvO5r) that U.S. Bankruptcy Judge James Smith found no evidence Donnan deliberately deceived Bell.
Bell's lawyers had asked Smith to allow the former player to claim part of Donnan's assets ahead of other investors, even though Bell had missed a deadline to file such a claim. Smith denied Bell permission to file the claim.
