Barrow Co. receives mini-grant for car seat safety

Posted 10:53AM on Monday 20th February 2012 ( 13 years ago )
WINDER - Financially-strapped families in Barrow County will be getting free car seats, thanks to a mini-grant from the Georgia Department of Public Health.

Barrow County EMS spokesperson Scott Dakin said the grant also provides for free education to families about how to properly install car seats.

"With this mini-grant what we do is we actually also do car seat checks where we can teach parents how to properly install a car seat because if it's not properly installed, it could be even more dangerous," said Dakin.

He said the 2012 Car Seat Mini-Grant was awarded to the Barrow County Sheriff's Office and Barrow County Emergency Services.

"Barrow County is getting put on the map because of people like Deputy Ed Weaver with the sheriff's office who is now and instructor and has taught more people than I could ever imagine on how to do car seats," said Dakin.
