GAINESVILLE - As the U.S. military works to return a severely injured Gainesville Marine to America, his friends and family are busy setting up a support network for Sean Adams.

Adams was severely wounded Friday when he stepped on a land mine while on duty in Afghanistan. At last report, he had lost both legs in the incident. He also suffered severe injuries to his hands, arms and face.

His sister-in-law Nicole Adams confirmed the 19-year-old arrived Sunday at Lundstuhl Medical Facility in Lundstuhl, Germany. He is expected to be transported to Bethesda, Md. as early as this week.

Baker Pulliam, a construction technology teacher at Chestatee High School, said he has known Sean since the Marine was in the 9th grade.

"Sean is a strong person. He always has been," said Pulliam. "There's no doubt in my mind Sean will come back [from this]. He's got some pretty tough injuries, but I really believe, and honestly know, that Sean's going to overcome this."

Pulliam said he can't do it alone, though.

"He's going to need help, and that's what we're for."

Over the weekend, friends designed a web site designed to keep supporters updated on Sean's condition. There site also serves as a donation site. (See link below.)

Nicole Adams said the family is uncertain what expenses they will incur once Sean arrives home. She said they know the military will pay for hospitalization for her brother-in-law and they will pay to fly her in-laws to Bethesda. Md. when Sean arrives there. Beyond that, she said they are waiting to see what the future holds.
