ATLANTA -- A panel of Georgia lawmakers is hearing from the NFL about the dangers of concussions in the sport.

The Georgia Concussion Coalition is pushing legislation this session aimed at cutting down on concussions in youth football. Their efforts are part of a national push by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and NCAA President Mark Emmert, who are urging 19 governors to support the proposal. In a letter last month to those governors, they say their states lack something akin to Washington state's "Zackery Lystedt Law," named for a middle school football player who sustained brain damage after he suffered a concussion and returned to play.

The letters say 31 states and Washington, D.C., already have such laws.

House Bill 673 will be heard by the Health and Human Services Committee.
