Raymond Parks said the 900-lb. cow head-butted him, knocking him into a barbed wire fence and breaking some of his ribs. He shot the cow and a vet later put the animal down.
Rabies in cows is very unusual, according to area veterinarians.
The cow lived on a farm not too far from the Hall County location where a rabid bobcat was found on January 20. The bobcat was shot by a homeowner on Bryant Quarter Road in Gillsville after the animal approached two dogs. Those dogs had updated vaccinations.
The remainder of Parks' 19 cattle will be quarantined for six months.
