Knights fall to Dunwoody in OT in Big Red Shootout

GAINESVILLE -- Johnson was outscored 8-3 in overtime as the Knights dropped another tough game in the Big Red Shootout, 75-70, to Dunwoody in the consolation round Friday at the Gainesville gym.

The score was tied 19-19 at the end of the first quarter but Johnson took a 36-33 lead into halftime and extended it to a 52-45 lead heading into the fourth quarter. The Knights would lead by seven with three minutes left but could not hold on.

Johnson scored the first two points of overtime before Dunwoody outscored the Knights 8-1 to close the game.

The Knights (10-4) battled foul trouble the entire game with starters Ty Cockfield and Rod English fouling out with over three minutes left in regulation.

again struggled from the foul line hitting 14-of-24 for the game, and just 3-of-9 down the stretch in the fourth quarter.

English led the Knights with 21 points. Carter Cagle added 13 points, Ty Cockfield had 11, and Drew Dunham scored eight points to go with 11 assists.

Montrell Mckenzie's double-double streak ended at 13 games after he finished with just seven points and eight rebounds.

Johnson will play its final game of the Big Red Shootout Saturday at 11:30 a.m. against Douglass, which lost 57-45 to Franklin County, for seventh place.

In another consolation round matchup, the Lions opened with a 17-9 run in the first quarter en route to a win over Douglass.

Tomoriea McGlockling paced the Lions with 22 points, including four 3-pointers. Red Montgomery finished with 14 points for Franklin County.

The Lions next will take on Dunwoody at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the fifth-place game.
