Hall County Fire Chief David Kimbrell said the 2,000 square-foot home is unlivable.
"The structure did sustain heavy fire and smoke damage to the main level and also to the attic with some smoke and water damage to the basement," said Kimbrell.
Kimbrell said weather conditions likely caused the fire to spread more quickly.
"The wind today played a factor, actually fanned the fire," he said.
He said one of the occupants of the home reported the fire at 8:37 a.m. just before a passerby also alerted authorities.
The American Red Cross was called to assist the two adult occupants of the home. Kimbrell said one of the family pets, a cat, died as a result of the fire.
Family members said another cat, a blind female, ran out of the house and is missing. The pet is described as black with large eyes. The family requests anyone who finds the cat call them at (770) 540-8586.
