Boys basketball: Knights beat S. Gwinnett

RABBITTOWN -- The Johnson boys rallied from a first quarter deficit to beat Class AAAAAA South Gwinnett 87-75 Saturday in the East Hall Classic.

South Gwinnett jumped out to a 26-17 lead after the 1st quarter. Johnson (1-0) trimmed the lead to 38-35 by halftime and then used a 23-16 third quarter to grab ht elead.

The Knights then pulled away in the fourth quarter hitting 13-of-15 free throws to ice the game.

Johnson was led by Montrell McKenzie with 26 points and 20 rebounds. Drew Dunham added 17 points, Ty Cockfield had 16 points, and Roderick English had a huge game with 15 points, eight rebounds, five steals, and five assists for Johnson.

Carter Cagle also chipped in with nine points, eight rebounds, and five assists.

South Gwinnett was led by Georgia Southern commit Cam Moye with 20 points. UNC-Wilmington commit Logan Adams scored 17, and Donte Williams added 15 for .

Johnson is back in action at home Monday at 7:30 vs Providence in the Johnson Tipoff Classic.
