Girls basketball: Johnson battles past Monroe Area

MONROE -- The Johnson girls basketball team rode a double-double performance from Lyndsey Pethel to a 57-52 defeat of Monroe Area on Tuesday in Monroe.

Pethel scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to pace the Lady Knights (4-18, 2-7 Region 8B-AAA). Emily Byers also scored 13 points, while Bridgette Johnson scored 10 points and snagged seven rebounds.

Johnson outscored Monroe 13-9 in the third quarter to take a lead it would never relinquish.

The Lady Knights will travel to face Gainesville on Friday.
