DEMOREST -- After a two-plus weeks' hiatus, the No. 20 Piedmont College women's basketball team started slow but finished strong in a 78-62 win over Great South Athletic Conference foes Agnes Scott, moving to 11-0 and 3-0 in GSAC action.

The offense came alive in the second half for the Lady Lions, led by senior Shanice Wheeler of Kennesaw with 14 points in the win. Junior Alyssa Jones of Carrollton and sophomore Lauren Hamel of Winder added 13 points apiece, while junior Keiondria Thompson and senior Sada Wheeler of Gainesville finished with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Wheeler played through an illness, managing just 16 minutes.

It took 27 minutes into the game before the Lady Lions connected on a 3-pointer. But once Hamel sunk the trey it sparked a 10-2 run for Piedmont, which increased its lead to 20 two different times in the second half.

Piedmont travels to Spelman College at 2 p.m. Saturday.
