Girls basketball: Merritt hits 1,000-point mark for Union County

BLAIRSVILLE -- The Union County girls hit their highest point total of the season Tuesday in a 72-28 thumping of Andrews (N.C.) at home.

Senior Rebecka Merritt also reached a milestone scoring the 1,000th point of her career for the Lady Panthers (11-2). Merritt finished with 16 points, all coming in the first half, and Callie Payne added 12 points for Union County.

Catie Tanner had 10 points for the Lady Panthers.
