White Co. schools facing 'tough decisions'

CLEVELAND - The White County School System is facing the loss of almost $10.5 million in state and local funds since 2008 and Superintendent Jeff Wilson says that will require some tough decisions.

Dr. Wilson says steps have been implemented including a hiring freeze to try to make up some of the loss.

He said said any personnel who leaves the school system this year will not be replaced. Wilson said until things get better it's not going to be easy.

"We've used some federal money, we've used some extra state money. The system has done a lot of things to now have to start cutting positions, because we need them. There is not a lot of fluff left, there's been a lot of cuts that have come."

Dr. Wilson says the public needs to understand that state funds are not there and cuts will be made and that will affect each aspect of the school system.
