CLERMONT - The Board of Directors of the Georgia Accrediting Commission has voted to unanimously approve the "Fully Accredited" status of Chattahoochee Christian School in Clermont.

The school has a 110-year legacy, having been founded in 1901 as Chattahoochee High School by the Chattahoochee Baptist
Association.

Its graduates excelled to such a degree that an arrangement was made with Mercer University in 1905 whereby graduates were
admitted into the sophomore class without further examination. In 1935 the school boasted that it had furnished more students who won honors in college than any other high school in Georgia and at one time was the only accredited school in the unincorporated areas of Hall County.

Throughout its history, CHS enjoyed the support of Concord Baptist Church. It was said that at certain points the church and school were so intertwined, it would have been difficult to see them as two separate institutions. With an emphasis on educating with a Biblical worldview, the principal of the school in 1920 estimated that 1 in 10 of all previous graduates had entered
into the ministry.

In 1935 the school became famous for its outstanding basketball teams. CHS won the state championship in in 1938. One member of this team, Whack Hyder, went on to be head coach at Georgia Tech.

One of its graduates, Denver Truelove, was the only native Georgian to fly in the now infamous "Doolittle's Raid" during World War II.

It was in 2004 members of Concord Baptist Church decided to recreate this rich Christian educational heritage. Chattahoochee Christian School was chartered in August 2004. Its vision, much like the original Chattahoochee High School, was to assist families in the educational and spiritual development of children by serving as an extension of the home.

While maintaining a low student-to-teacher ratio CCS has remained one of the most affordable private Christian schools in northeast Georgia. CCS students continually score in the top 10 in Standardized Achievement Test (SAT) reading and math categories as compared to other Christian schools throughout the state. The school is housed in the new 15,000-square-foot facility provided by Concord Baptist Church.
