CHESTNUT MOUNTAIN - A half-million dollar home near Chestnut Mountain was destroyed by fire early Friday, according to Hall County Fire Chief David Kimbrell.

Kimbrell said it happened in the 5200 block of Strickland Road about 2:40.

"Caller was the occupant, stating that their home was on fire," Chief Kimbrell said. "Upon arrival, firefighters found an approximately 3,600-square-foot home with basement that was about 70% involved."

He added the house was occupied by four adults - a couple and their son and daughter-in-law.

Kimbrell said the house is a total loss with damage estimated at $500,000.

Firefighters were still on the scene at 8:00 Friday morning but were getting ready to leave. The cause of the fire had not been determined.
