BLAIRSVILLE - Angie Hughes tossed a complete-game one-hitter in helping Union County snap a two-game losing streak with a 4-0 win over Banks County Thursday in a key Region 8A-AA battle for both teams.

The win for the Lady Panthers (15-5, 4-2 in subregion) moved them into secod place behind Fannin County. Those two teams are scheduled to meet in the final regular season game of the season in two weeks.

Union County pounded out nine hits off the Lady Leopards. The Lady Panthers scored a run in the first to take the lead and added two runs in the third and one in the fifth.

Becka Merritt had two hits to lead Union County at the plate. Catie Tanner had a triple and two RBI for the Lady Pathers.
