GAINESVILLE - Mamie Coker, Health Services Coordinator for the Hall County School District, has announced that North Georgia College and State University has committed 123 nursing students for in-service training to assist the school district in numerous wellness initiatives throughout the district.

"The future of nursing is moving toward more Community- based care with the emphasis on primary healthcare, health promotion and disease prevention," according to Patti Simmons, Assistant Professor of Nursing at the Gainesville Campus of NGCSU.

Simmons added: "Nursing values the partnership with local school systems and feels our students represent the core value of service reflective of the NGCSU mission. The department of nursing philosophy promotes more than caring for the sick but also preventing illness. The department also believes serving others is an attribute of leadership."

In the coming weeks, NGCSU Nursing students will participate in hearing, vision, height & weight screening throughout the district.
