GAINESVILLE - When the Gainesville Planning & Appeals Board meets Tuesday, it will have a staff recommendation for approval of a variance that would clear the way for a drive-thru restaurant at the busy Browns Bridge/McEver road intersection.

It would be located on the tract that also contains a Shell station and is across the road from where a RaceTrac convenience store is now under construction.

The planning staff is also recommending approval of a request from the Gainesville school system for the city to abandon a portion of School Street which school officials say is needed for part of the construction of a new Fair Street School.
