Miller named to Ga. transit task force

ATLANTA - Gov. Nathan Deal has created a transit governance task force that will make recommendations for changes during next year's legislative session.

State Senator Butch Miller of Gainesville is one of those named to the panel.

Deal signed an executive order on Wednesday creating the task force. The co-chairs will be state House Majority Caucus Chairwoman Donna Sheldon of Dacula and Senate Transportation Committee Chairman Jeff Mullis of Chickamauga.

The panel will take the findings of the Transit Governance Study Commission and use them to craft a legislative proposal.

The study panel found that the metro Atlanta region has a multitude of transit agencies that work independently of each other. Deal said they could benefit from better oversight, streamlining and coordination.
