BRASELTON - The Braselton City Council is poised to cancel this year's city council elections because there are no contested races.

The council meets for a work session Thursday afternoon and plans to discuss the matter which will be put up for a vote at the monthly council meeting Monday.

Georgia law allows municipalities to do that if there are no contested races and a number of other places are likely to follow suit because of similar circumstances though voters in many of them will be asked to go to the polls on that day to vote on the Sunday sale of alcoholic beverages in retail stores.
