COMMERCE - The 12-year-old boy killed in a wreck Friday night on I-85 in Jackson County was Devin Pierce of Douglasville.

Police say Pierce died after being thrown from his family's SUV on near Commerce.

Police say Pierce was riding in the 2005 Ford Excursion driven by his father shortly after 6:00 Friday when the rear tire blew out and his father lost control of the vehicle. The SUV ran onto the left shoulder of the highway and then crossed both lanes of traffic and hit a guardrail on the right shoulder.

Police say Devin wasn't wearing a seat belt.

Also in the SUV were his parents, 42-year-old Daniel Pierce and 37-year-old Casondra Pierce, and two other relatives, 20-year-old Cassy Jones and her 5-month-old daughter. They suffered injuries that weren't believed to be life-threatening and were taken to a hospital.
