Gwinnett got great pitching, but it was one swing of the bat that put the home team over the top tonight. Down 2-1 in the bottom of the 4th inning, Wes Helms led the inning off reaching on an error and Mauro Gomez followed that with a home run blast into the grassy berm for a 3-2 advantage the G-Braves wouldn't give up.
Starting RHP Teheran (15-2) went 6.0 IP, allowing 2 R/ER on 4 H, 2 BB and 5 K's. His league-leading 15th win, which is also already a Gwinnett record for wins in a season, is the most victories by a Braves Triple-A pitcher since Trey Hodges grabbed 15 wins for the Richmond Braves in 2002. He hasn't allowed more than 2 R in any of his last four starts. RHP Moylan went a scoreless 7th inning, allowing 1 H, 1BB and striking out 2 including the final batter of the inning with the bases loaded in his third ML rehab appearance for the Braves. RHP Jairo Asencio went a scoreless 9th inning for his 23rd save of the season and 50th of his Gwinnett career.
Mauro Gomez, at 1B, was 1-for-4 in the game with his HR and 2 RBI. Ruben Gotay played 2B and was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a SB, while RF Stefan Gartrell also had a 2-for-4, 1 RBI night. Leadoff hitter and CF Wilkin Ramirez went 3-for-4 with 2 SB.
The G-Braves wrap up this four game series against the Norfolk Tides and, in turn, the homestand on Sunday at 2:05 p.m. Gwinnett's starter has yet to be announced, but whoever it is will go against Tides RHP Chris Tillman (3-4, 4.31), who threw a no-hitter against Gwinnett at Coolray Field last season.
