Volleyball: West Hall impresses on opening night

RABBITTOWN -- The West Hall volleyball team got off to a thrilling and impressive start to the 2011 campaign on Tuesday, defeating Habersham Central, Flowery Branch and East Hall -- each in three sets -- in Rabbittown.

The Lady Spartans edged Habersham 23-25, 25-20, 25-19, Flowery Branch 25-23, 16-25, 25-20, and East Hall 18-25, 25-21, 25-22.

Laykin Herford paced West Hall with 102 assists during the course of the afternoon, while LeNiesha Kearse supplied 28 kills -- Stephanie Rowland wasn't far behind with 26 kills. Tonya Bennett also had 19 kills and 13 blocks, while Krista Walsh and Carrie Rous each tallied 30 digs.

The Lady Spartans will travel to Commerce on Thursday to face East Jackson and East Hall.
