Memorial service planned for former Gainesville councilman

GAINESVILLE - A former member of the Gainesville City Council and Gainesville Planning & Appeals Board died Saturday at his home and a memorial service will be held for him later this week.

Dave Rankin, Jr., who was 90, was also one of the original stockholders of Northeast Georgia Broadcasting Company (now Jacobs Media Corp.) when the company was formed in 1949 and was WDUN's first sales manager. However, he left radio and went into the automobile sales business and owned and operated Dave Rankin Autos in Gainesville for many years.

Memorial services are scheduled for 11:00 Wednesday at Grace Episcopal Church in Gainesville.
