GAINESVILLE - A number of competitors have banded together to add to the $3,000 reward fund being offered in the theft of $10,000 worth of equipment and materials from a Gainesville crime scene/trauma clean-up company.

BioTrauma says the items were in a trailer that was stolen last Thursday night from its offices on Chestnut Street.

Another $4,000 has been added to the reward by several other biorecovery remediation firms, according to Gordy Powell, co-owner of GeorgiaClean.com. They are: GeorgiaClean.com of Atlanta, Nivek Catastrophe Specialist of Jasper, Metro Bio-Recovery of Johns Creek, and Southern Bio-Recovery of Cobb County.

"We are all appalled that a company that specializes in helping those that are victims, is now a victim itself and is hindered (in) aiding those because of a selfish act," Powell said.

Powell also said a warehouse full of the kinds of equipment and materials BioTrauma lost has been put at the company's disposal so it can replenish its supplies and put its people back to work.

BioTrauma's Ryan Sawyer says he has had to reduce his workforce because of the theft.

"Our company works hard at assisting families during their difficult times of dealing with unfortunate incidents (suicides, homicides, etc.)," the company said in a press release issued after last Thursday's theft. "It's disturbing that now our crew is cut in half until we can replace the trailer and equipment. We are offering a $3,000 reward to any information that helps lead to an arrest."

Sawyer says the trailer is a 14x7, white, box-type trailer.
