Both the northbound and southbound lanes were closed until the wreckage could be cleared.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, a pickup was traveling at a high rate of speed when a tire blew out and it overturned.
The driver was trapped in the wreckage and after he was freed was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with serious injuries.
A spokesman for the Hall County Sheriff's Office says the the accident happened about 8:00 and that when he last checked, the driver was in stable condition.
