LAWRENCEVILLE -- The Gwinnett Braves enjoyed some home-cooking on Saturday, taking out the Charlotte Knights 4-0 at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville.

The victory halted a two-game skid against Charlotte on the road. This time Gwinnett got more than a little help from yet another top Braves pitching prospect, as Randall Delgado made his Triple-A debut in dazzling fashion for the victory.

The G-Braves (62-51) remained in second place in the International League South at 1.5 games behind Durham, who also won tonight. Gwinnett is also in second in the Wild Card race by a 1.5 games behind Pawtucket, who was also victorious tonight.

Gwinnett's newest starting pitcher dominated from the start, striking out at least one batter in each inning (including the side in the third frame) for a total of 9 strikeouts in the game. He went 6 innings, allowing just 3 hits without any runs, 3 walks and his highest strikeout total since May 9 with Mississippi. He has now won both his debuts at Double- and Triple-A this year.

First baseman Mauro Gomez led the way for Gwinnett at the plate, belting his 19th homer of the season in a 1-for-3 night with 1 RBI. Centerfielder Matt Young was another sparkplug for the offense, going 2-for-3 with a steal of home in the top of the 1st inning. Shortstop Tyler Pastornicky extended his hitting streak to 11 games, finishing 1-for-3 with 1 RBI.

The G-Braves take on the Knights in the second and last game of this mini, two game homestand, Sunday at 2:05 p.m. Gwinnett will send out another top Braves pitching prospect in RHP Julio Teheran (12-1, 1.90) against Charlotte RHP Joe Bisenius (3-1, 2.98). The game can be heard on the voice of the Gwinnett Braves, WDUN 550 AM and 102.9 FM, and also on TV at CSS.
