GAINESVILLE - Because of the lingering heat wave, extra precautions will be taken when Hall County schools open for the new year on Monday.

Supt. Will Schofield says buses will all have supplies of drinking water available for students "on an as needed basis."

In addition, Schofield says "We will be closely monitoring the weather this weekend to determine by Sunday evening what limitations will be in effect for outdoor activities beginning next week."

He reminds parents and students that school starting and ending times can be found on the school system Web site, www.hallco.org

On other matters, Schofield says "With the uncertainty that abounds (concerning student enrollment), we are standing ready to move personnel where they are needed as headcounts become available next week. We ask for your patience during these periods of adjustment. Similarly, we ask for you forbearance regarding bus routes as they will also be adjusted to maximize efficiencies once we determine rider numbers."

The Hall County School System is one several in the immediate Gainesville area opening for the new year on Monday. The others are Commerce and Gainesville, Barrow County, Gwinnett County, and Athens-Clarke County. North Georgia Christian School also begins the new school year Monday.
