5 teams under par at Hooters Women's Collegiate Team Championship

DAHLONEGA - A pair of back nine surges on Tuesday afternoon left Lindsey Solberg/Caroline Power of Michigan State and Heather Lott/Liz Breed of the University of Kentucky atop the leaderboard on the opening day at the 2nd Annual Hooters Women's Collegiate Team Championship at Achasta, By Reynolds Golf Course in Dahlonega.<br /> <br /> During the opening round alternate shot format, the Spartan duo of Solberg/Powers tallied four birdies on the back nine to vault to a tie for first place with Kentucky's Lott/Breed who carded a four-under-par 68 to force a deadlock and a tie for the low round of the day.<br /> <br /> The University of Virginia's Elizabeth Brightwell/Portland Rosen found themselves in trouble on their final hole of the day before settling for a double bogey finishing a shot off the pace with a three-under-par 69.<br /> <br /> The University of Mississippi's Haley Sanders/Katherine Fowler finished the day with a two-under-par 70, while Kristin Coleman/Jennifer Coleman from the University of Colorado rounded out the players under par with a one-under-par 71 to hold sole possession of fifth place.<br /> <br /> In the race for the NCAA Division II low round of the day, Tarleton State University's Katy Ward/Sarah Fulfer held a one shot lead over a pair of schools, while in the NCAA Division III race, Central College's Sarah Paulson/Ali Miller ran away from the field at three-over-par, edging Taylor Beaty/Kelly Gaughan from DePauw University by eight strokes.<br /> <br /> All 55 teams return to action on Wednesday morning for the second day of the Hooters Collegiate Team Championship with tee times set to begin at 8:00 a.m. playing in a best ball format.
