GAINESVILLE - With the start of school now just two weeks ago, the Gainesville School System is ready to put into place a new, staggered system for parents to drop-off and pick up their children at two more of its schools, Enota and Centennial.

Supt. Merrianne Dyer says the program, already in place at the middle school, will be implemented at Enota and Centennial for the new term when it begins August 8. It is designed to alleviate as much as possible traffic congestion around the schools at the two busiest times of day.

Parents are asked to stagger the time they arrive at the school at the beginning and end of each the school day over a 30-minute period based on the first letter of their last name. Mornings, A-L, 7:10-7:25 and M-Z, 7:25-7:40. Afternoons, A-L, 2:20-2:35 and M-Z 2:30-2:45.

Dr. Dyer admits it would be difficult to enforce the request and says no effort is made at the middle school to do so and none will be made at Centennial and Enota but "if enough people adhere to it, it can make a difference." She also notes that "personal situations" will always keep some people from being able to comply.
