GAINESVILLE - Hall County State Court Solicitor Stephanie Woodard has recused her office from the case of downtown Gainesville restaurant owner Juan Luna.

Luna, the owner of Luna's, faces charges growing out of an on-the-street confrontation with another downtown restaurant owner, Scott Dixon, owner of Scott's on the Square.

Woodard said Wednesday she removed her office from the case "due to community relationships with both the victim and the defendant" and says the case has been referred to the state Attorney General's office for appointment of a special prosecutor.

Luna was scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday on charges of simple assault and pointing a gun at another. That proceeding was postponed after Woodard stepped aside as prosecutor, and is pending appointment of the special prosecutor.
