Gainesville Fire Chief Jon Canada says the fire - which occurred shortly after 5:00 - was contained to the second floor of the two-story, 4,000-square-foot house.
Canada says two people were at home at the time but escaped unharmed.
He said the cause of the fire, which was brought under control in about 50 minutes, has not been determined.
