Gwinnett Fire Department spokesman Tommy Rutledge said neighbors called 911 Wednesday morning when they saw flames coming from the single-story wood-frame house.
Rutledge says the man was pronounced dead at the scene and the boy was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Rutledge said preliminary reports indicate the man was attempting to put out the blaze when he died.
WSB-TV reports that the child's mother ran next door to get help but the flames were too intense. The station says the woman and a 5-year-old girl rescued from the house were taken to a hospital.
Rutledge said firefighters found no evidence of a working smoke alarm.
