ARCADE - An Arizona-based development company has announced plans to develop a vacant tract in Jackson County into a 3,800-home mixed-used community with two elementary schools, an office and research park, stores and pedestrian trails.

Walton Arcade Meadows LLC, based in Scottsdale, Ariz., is asking the city of Arcade to annex 366 acres of unincorporated Jackson County for the 1,600-acre, multiuse project.

The Northeast Georgia Regional Commission will have to review the impact of the project before the Arcade city council considers the zoning and annexation requests.

Development plans include about 954 multifamily housing units as well as 2,845 single-family homes on lots ranging from 4,400 to 7,000 square feet. Zoning documents show the project would take about 30 years to complete.
