TOCCOA - A Stephens County man is charged with a number of thefts in Hall and Stephens counties, including that of a motorcycle stolen from Hall County.

The arrest of 50-year-old Allen Taylor of Toccoa stems from an April 27 police raid in Toccoa.

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley says items taken in Hall, Clarke and Stephens counties as well as North Carolina were found during a search of Taylor's property. The motorcycle was stolen in 2002, according to Shirley.

The sheriff said that so far an enclosed trailer stolen in Clarke County, a utility trailer taken from Shorewood in Stephens County and a new log splitter, taken from Tractor Supply in Toccoa have been recovered.

"During the week of the NASCAR race in Charlotte, North Carolina, several golf carts were stolen," Shirley added. "We have traced one back to Lumpkin County where Taylor allegedly sold it to an individual."

Sheriff Shirley said it has been verified as stolen and "warrants a forthcoming from Lumpkin County for theft by receiving."

Taylor is charged with four counts of felony and misdemeanor theft by receiving. He is also charged with possession of marijuana and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Sheriff Shirley says marijuana and a semi-automatic pistol were also seized during the investigation.

Taylor is free on $31,100 bond.
