CLEVELAND -- Truett-McConnell College announced Friday that it has hired Matt Sanders as its head women's basketball coach.

Sanders takes over from Buster Brown and will lead the Lady Bears after serving as an assistant coach at Lee University, in Tennessee -- where he assisted both the men's and women's programs. Sanders also won two state championships at Heirway Christian Academy where he coached for six years. He was also an assistant coach at Ola High School in McDonough.

"I am thrilled to see what God is going to do for our women's basketball program under Coach Sanders' leadership," Chris Eppling, TMC athletic director, said. "Seeing his heart for Christ and his heart for the student-athletes that he will be influencing has gotten me extremely excited."

"We are going to be the best we can possibly be on and off the court-spiritually, emotionally, socially, academically, and also in basketball," Sanders said.

Sanders' teams will employ an up-tempo style on the floor, with an emphasis on defense and a fast-break offense.

Sanders has already commenced recruiting and says he is more than delighted about this opportunity.
