GAINESVILLE - The Civil War comes to Gainesville Sunday, when the Northeast Georgia History Center's "Famil Sunday" series presents "The Civil War in Northeast Georgia."
From 1:00-4:00, Civil War re-enactors from the 42nd, 43rd, and 47th Georgia and the 21st and 125th Ohio will display and demonstrate weaponry, camp life, and music. In addition, the history center's exhibits in the rotunda and Founders' Hall, which include Civil War Battle Flags, the Longstreet Society, and Alta vista Cemetery, will be on display.
Hands-on activities will include rolling ammunition, sampling Civil War foods, and "new recruits" drills.
Admission is free, courtesy of the sponsor of Sunday's event, North Georgia Eye Clinic and Laser Center.
This year marks the 150th anniversary of the start of the war.
